It's Turkey Time

First off here are the results from last week's 5K:

Just kidding, we didn't goof off and let everyone run around.  After we regained feeling in our fingers and toes we calculated that we managed to raise about $1,500 which we will donate to AID Atlanta and is an increase from last year's event.  Thanks to everyone who came out to make this possible and to our sponsors!  To see your photos or photos of your friends go to our website, Facebook page, or Flickr.

Now for this week we have the last Munchies with Mentors for the semester on Monday at 5pm in IC 109. Also we will have two BME board members hold a discussion session on "To BME or not BME".  When we return from stuffing our faces, studying (here's hoping), seeing family, etc. We will be hold our fall banquet on Dec. 4th in Student Success Center.  This is an opportunity available for all members and will be a great opportunity for free food and to see the highlights of this semester in AMSA.  Keep an eye out for future announcements regarding the banquet in the upcoming newsletter.

Safe travels and Happy Turkey Day!

Counting it down!

Soon the moment of truth will arrive and we will see how well we've done for our 2nd Annual 5K.  In case you have been living under the proverbial rock recently (or have been really busy), we will be having a 5K this Saturday starting at 8:00am in the Biotechnology Quad on campus.  The theme for our 5K is that participants should wear something that represents the holiday season to them (Santa hats, jingle bells, turkey costumes, get the picture?)  You still have a chance to sign-up for $10 for GT Housing students and $15 for everyone else here (please make sure you pay when you register otherwise you will get a bunch of emails until you do).  Come run with your Hall council because the Hall Council with the most participants will win a "Winter-Fest" Party hosted by AMSA.  For those of you who have already signed-up don't forget to stay after the race because we will be having Tin Drum after the race and some group activities including a photo booth were there will be holiday themed props.  You will also receive your shirt after the race has finished and we will be giving out medals to the top finishers.

If you can't come run you should show your support by coming to our percentage night at Rocky Mountain Pizza tonight from 8:30-10:30.  You might even see a couple of the officers participating in the Karaoke night as well.  When you eat during those times and tell the wait-staff that you are here for AMSA's charity night a percentage of your bill will go to our 5K.

Also to our volunteers we can't wait to see you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 6:00am on Saturday!  You will get your shirts when you arrive to make it easier to distinguish between runners, volunteers, and the exec board members who will be wearing the regular AMSA shirts.

Hope to see you all  tonight and Saturday!

Goodbye and Good luck Ms.Kimble

As all you prehealthers know by now Ms. Kimble will be leaving Georgia Tech at the end of the month to be in charge of admissions at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.  Ms. Kimble has been a wonderful asset to the Pre-Health community throughout her tenure here.  She has helped us all from taking that first step into the pre-health world to the very end, along with all the steps in-between.  From my own experience she has helped me avoid more than a few moments of anxiety over med school along with providing reality checks.  Upon her departure, Dr. Shannon Dobranski will take over the administrative aspects and the Pre-Health Weekly Digests will still be distributed.  For more information on Ms. Kimble's departure refer to the email she sent out last week.

Jeopardy, Munchies, and Medshare! Oh My!

Hey guys! I don't know about you but this week seems to be a hell week for me so I'm going to keep this short:

  1. The AMSA newsletter will now be released weekly instead of biweekly.
  2. We will no longer be using the Flickr account to keep up with photos from AMSA, please refer to our Facebook page instead for all your AMSA photo needs (including photos from Walk of Heroes and the Mentorship Kick-off)
  3. Upcoming events:
    1. TONIGHT (9/24): Jeopardy style MCAT review 7-8pm IC 219
    2. Tomorrow (9/25): Munchies with Mentors 5-6pm IC 111
    3. Saturday (9/28): Medshare 9-12.  We will meet up in front of the student center food court (2nd floor) at 8:15.  Registration closes on Friday (9/27) at 12 pm.
Good luck on any tests you may have!

Look who's back!

Hopefully everyone has adjusted to being back on campus and is ready for the weekend.  We have a brand-spanking-new website (go look here, do it now!).  Anyway now that you've had a look at it, isn't it awesome?  Now it should be easier for you guys to keep up with all things AMSA.  Don't forget we will be having our first general meeting Tuesday, August 27th in Van Leer W200 from 7-8.  Not sure where Van Leer is? No problem!  Van Leer is near Howey Physics building, but it's at the bottom of the street and across from the Bunger-Henry Building and after the Petit building as you walk away from Howey.  Still confused?  Look at this GT map.  Come to meet the new exec board, hear about upcoming events, or just for the pizza (but hopefully that's not the motivating force).  If you have friends even slightly interested in AMSA bring them along, the more the merrier.  See you guys on Tuesday!
